Former Syracuse football player shot

WHEC-TVCHELTENHAM, Pennsylvania - A San Diego Chargers running back from Philadelphia has been hospitalized after being shot in his car at a suburban intersection.

A hospital spokesman says 23-year-old Curtis Brinkley is in stable condition in the intensive care unit at Albert Einstein Medical Center. An uncle, Gregory Brinkley, tells WPVI-TV that he was able to talk with relatives on the phone.

Police say the shooting occurred early Friday morning as Brinkley was driving in Cheltenham in Montgomery County, just north of Philadelphia. Police say they are looking for a gunman who fled in a car but don't know a motive for the shooting.

Brinkley signed with the Chargers as a free agent out of Syracuse following the 2009 draft. He rushed for 1,164 yards and seven touchdowns last season with the Orange.
