South Bristol to address future of highway department

WHEC-TVFrom our news partners at the Messenger Post Newspapers

The South Bristol Town Board will hold a special meeting tonight to discuss plans to replace its former highway chief, who this past week pleaded guilty to a felony.

The Town Board has yet to discuss specific plans to replace a position vacated by Larry Duel after he pleaded guilty to a charge of third-degree grand larceny. Deputy Highway Superintendent Gary Leach will fill Duel's role until the town appoints a replacement or a new highway superintendent is elected. A Republican or Democratic candidate could still appear on the ballot this fall if selected through caucus by mid-September.

The special meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Town Hall, 6500 Gannett Hill Road.

The South Bristol Town Board will hold a special meeting Monday evening regarding their Highway Department.
