The City of Canandaigua is planning to charge more for the water it provides to surrounding towns next year. The projected 2010 water rate will be $1.97 per thousand gallons, up from the $1.83 per thousand gallons the city charged this year. The increase will go towards paying for the construction of a second new water tank and for the refurbishment of the existing steel tank, City Manager Kay James wrote in a letter dated Oct. 2 announcing the increase. Increased operational and debt service costs are major contributors to the increase, James wrote. The Towns of Canandaigua, Farmington, Hopewell, Manchester and the Village of Manchester all purchase their water from the city, which has its own water purification system. Farmington Town Supervisor Ted Fafinski said the town and residents will feel the increase, especially as the town prepares it's 2010 budget. "Any impact to the budget is in impact," Fafinski said.
