Wife-killer gets sentenced to 25 to life

A convicted wife-killer gets the maximum sentence, 25 years to life, but he still denies he is the murderer.

It's not often you get to hear from a convicted killer but today Bryon Drennan defended himself on camera.

Last month, a jury found Drennan guilty of murdering his newly-wed wife. It took the jury only 30 minutes to convict him.

Stephanie Casey was found buried under rocks along Lake Ontario. She was stabbed and beaten to death.

Before Drennan stood before a judge, he talked to News 10NBC exclusively and was ready to defense himself.

Reporter Berkeley Brean asked Drennan, “But don't you have any remorse? Are you going to show any remorse at all?”

Drennan replied, “I didn't kill my wife and I will say that to everybody in Wayne County and whoever knows me close enough that as well.”

Drennan was convicted of killing his wife, Stephanie Casey. They met two summers ago in Texas.  They married late October in Wayne County and by Thanksgiving last year, Casey was dead.

In court her mother said, “She died alone on the rocky shore of Lake Ontario at the hands of the man who said he loved her. I want justice for my daughter."

Judge Dennis Kehoe told Drennan that he is "the face and voice of evil. You scare me. I think you are a dangerous man."

Our cameras were waiting for him as he left the courthouse.

Drennan said, “I'm innocent. Everybody is innocent until proven guilty.”

Brean: “What did you think of what the judge had to say to you?”
Drennan: “I thought it was outrageous. I thought he was a little bit more extreme than he should have been.”

Brean: “What about Stephanie's parents?”
Drennan: “I'm really sorry of the loss of her daughter. I'm very sorry not only to her parents but my family as well, the Drennans. I'm sorry to the Plutoriks. I'm sorry to all my friends and family that are out there listening to this right now. I am innocent of this crime until proven guilty in the court of law. Do I believe if I were given a fair jury and trial? No I don't. I think this will be appealed and I will be given a new jury and new trial.”

Drennan kept repeating that he was innocent until proven guilty. That's what a jury did last month.

He will spend the next 25 years of his life at the prison in Elmira.
