Yankees win World Series

The Big Apple is celebrating after the Yankees won the World Series Wednesday night. This is the 27th World Series title for the Yankees.

Hideki Matsui gave the Yankees the lead in the second inning with a two run homerun, and then in the third inning Matsui hit a two-run single with the bases loaded to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead.

Then in the fifth inning, after an RBI from Mark Teixeira, Matsui got two more RBI’s. That totaled 6 for the night, which ties Bobby Richardson's single game series record. At that point the Yankees were up 7-1.

The Phillies tried to get back in the game in the sixth inning, but the Yankees won 7-3.

Police say so far there have not been any problems in the streets with the people celebrating.

Hideki Matsui was named MVP and the Yankees will hold a parade in New York City on Friday.
