Helping finding a job locally is just around the corner

President Obama says national unemployment numbers have hit the double-digit mark. The jobless rate now stands at 10.2-percent and economists believe even more jobs will be lost.

The latest government labor statistics show Rochester with an eight-percent unemployment rate but with the help of RochesterWorks! And News 10NBC, help is on the way.

Betsy Peritore of Rochester has been unemployed for about two months. “I lost my sense of self-worth I worked many years. I’ve always been working was devastated.” The registered nurse picked herself up and made her way to RochesterWorks!

Annie Walker is a career services advisor at RochesterWorks!. News 10NBC is partnering with them for a career conference this Tuesday. Walker said, “We're trying to give people a new perspective, some bright new ideas to go and look at to give them different avenues they may not have thought of looking at before.”

Walker says things have changed when it comes to finding a job. “People need to learn how to search differently. They need to be proactive, they need to know how to speak well about themselves and learn the different venues.”

One of those venues is social media. Betsy said she has never done networking, Twitter or Facebook but through workshops at RochesterWorks!, Betsy's learning new things and so can you.

Twenty-four hour long workshops will be offered Tuesday at the RochesterWorks! career conference.

Betsy says it worked well for her. “I updated my resume through their workshops and hopefully I will be employed starting next week.”

All the help you need will be available Tuesday at the Double Tree Hotel in Henrietta.

News 10NBC is partnering with RochesterWorks! for the first annual career conference. Employers will be on hand with plenty of workshops to get you on track.
