The congressional race in the New York 27th district could be turning into a referendum on President Obama’s health care law.
Congresswoman Kathy Hochul was in Victor Monday, talking to seniors about the 46th anniversary of Medicare being signed into law. She says it was controversial at the time, just like the Affordable Care Act.
And while she agrees the new law isn’t perfect, she says we need to fix the mistakes and move on rather than refight old battles. But Hochul’s republican opponent, Chris Collins, says the new law has to go.
Chris Collins, Congressional Candidate, 27th District, said, "So clearly, one of my agenda items is helping soon-to-be president Romney repeal Obamacare and get rid of the largest tax increase, government takeover of health care we've ever seen that decimates Medicare for our seniors."
Representative Kathy Hochul, 27th District, said, “There's a lot of uncertainty about this, but it is now the law of the land and they understand that. And we don't want to take this country backward and re-litigate and re-fight over this. We've got a lot of other issues to deal with. We've got an economy that has to get back on track."
Hochul says seniors in western New York are already saving hundreds of dollars a year on prescriptions because of the Affordable Care Act. She says many people benefit from it, but don’t realize it.
