Next month, about a dozen people from Monroe County will go to Tampa for the Republican National Convention.
Republican County Chair and Assemblyman Bill Reilich will be among them. News10NBC talked to Reilich about it Thursday.
He says the conventions still serve a legal purpose in choosing a presidential candidate, even though everyone knows it will be Mitt Romney.
Reilich says it's also an opportunity to see the party's future, just like he did way back in 1988. “I remember going to George Sr.'s convention and George W. was sitting up behind us -- at the time the owner of the Texas Rangers -- and everyone kind of thought he might have a future in politics but he was just sitting up there with the people.”
County Executive Maggie Brooks is also a delegate for the Convention. She is running against Congresswoman Louise Slaughter.
The Democrats hold their convention in Charlotte in September.
