Monroe County Republicans announced their candidate for the 16th District in the Monroe County Legislature Thursday afternoon.
That’s the seat occupied by Vinnie Esposito who is stepping down to take a job in the Cuomo administration.
Monroe County GOP Chairman Bill Reilich says Dr. Joe Carbone will run for the seat in a special election this fall. Carbone ran against Esposito last November and says he will fight to keep property taxes stable and streamline government if he is elected.
Dr. Carbone said, "I'm passionate about serving my community. It's one of the reasons I chose medicine as a career."
Reilich said, “As a small business owner, he knows the importance of making sure that Irondequoit is business friendly so new businesses will look to relocate there, bringing with them the jobs they create."
Monroe County Democratic Chairman Joe Morelle released a statement regarding the nomination. ”Joe Carbone tried to buy an election seven months ago, spending the most money for a losing campaign in county legislature history. I doubt Irondequoit voters have so quickly forgotten his negative campaign or his lack of integrity.”
Democrat Stephanie Aldersley who is on the Irondequoit Town Board wants to be appointed to fill Esposito’s seat and she says she will also run in this fall’s special election.
