Homeowner upset about bus ad

A controversial bus ad has sparked quite the debate online and is causing a Rochester resident to take action.
The ad is for Jackson Guns and Ammo, a local business with locations in Henrietta and Scottsville.
Elena O’Connor, a homeowner in the 19th Ward says she was shocked to see the ad. O’Connor says a gun ad has no business on a city bus and is starting a petition against these types of ads.
O’Connor says, “We live in a community that has struggled with a high crime rate, it's going down now but it's still high. We live in a community that's suffered economically. That creates crime problems and it does not seem at all appropriate for a bus to be running an ad telling people explicitly where they can purchase weapons."
News10NBC checked with the Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority. They says it contracts out the advertising space and receives FTA funds which means it can’t limit what federal, state and local laws allow.
RGRTA statement: “We don’t get to have discretion about what is within the law on the sides of our buses. We have to follow what is allowed by law.”
News10NBC also reached out to Jackson Guns and Ammo. Kordell Jackson, the owner, says they are not here to promote violence, but to educate and protect homeowners who are legal gun owners. He tells News10NBC they advertise all over the country through several means, not just in the city.
