The Golisano Foundation is honoring local volunteers for their work with people with special needs.

Dr. Joseph Carbone is a man whose work keeps the Special Olympians on their feet.

As a podiatrist, Doctor Joseph Carbone helps people everyday make their lives a little easier. He helps their feet and their feelings.

Part of his passion is the Special Olympics. Every year, he organizes the foot screenings for the Olympians and for his work, he's honored by the Golisano Foundation. Dr. Carbone said, “It's very gratifying to work for the Special Olympics. They shouldn't be giving me an award. I should be giving them an award but I’m humbled and appreciative of the award.”

Doctor Carbone says the Olympians and their stories stick with him. They are his inspiration to volunteer for the Special Olympics every year. “Well like I say, it's inspiring to see what these special Olympians do. The amount of joy the Special Olympics gives the Special Olympians and their families is overwhelming and it's humbling to be able to help them and it's very gratifying.”
