PUSH Physical Theatre to perform at Fringe Festival

Artists from all over the country jumped at the chance to perform at the First Niagara Rochester Fringe Fest.

Organizers were inundated with applications but the fest -- which starts next Wednesday -- also features a lot of homegrown talent like PUSH Physical Theatre.

The fest is giving them a chance to get in front of new audiences and try out new works.

PUSH Physical Theatre has been around for a dozen years and jumped at the chance to take part in what will be a first for Rochester. PUSH Physical Theatre mixes mime, modern dance and gymnastics. PUSH even plans to premier a new work.

Co-Director and Founder Darren Stevenson -- who is also on the Fringe Fest Board -- says  beyond reaching new audiences, this is an opportunity for everyone who is performing at the Fest to see and support one another. “I’m going to go see their shows, they’re going to come see mine and so we get to share creativity and share that rich fertile imagination all of these things that are happening.”

The Fringe Fest is also a chance to take some chances and try something new.

The other co-founder of PUSH, Heather Stevenson agrees but says she's also excited for those who're coming to the Fringe Fest and all the things they'll have to choose from. “Instead of hearing about one show they might take the weekend and see three different things -- maybe something they’d never think to go see but they’ll take a chance and talk about you can like it or not like it – it’s art."
