When Rita Ross and her fifth and sixth graders from School No. 22 toured the new exhibit "RACE: Are We So Different?" at the Rochester Museum and Science Center, there was a lot to take in.

One area focuses on housing discrimination and another shows various sized piles of money, representing the average net worth of different races.

Since the exhibit opened in January, 24,000 people have come through the doors including students from the suburbs and the city, faith-based groups and corporate groups.

The focus is on race. It's not the kind of exhibit that points a finger of blame at any group, but it does point out a collective history shared by all. The goal to show how we may not be so different after all.

Debra Jacobson, marketing director with the museum, says there are a lot of things to get people talking. One of them focuses on Native Americans. Another on the U.S. Census, which shows how people have been labeled over the years and how it has changed with skin color.

There is a voice recognition exhibit where you are asked to try to match the voice with the picture you see. I got all of them wrong by the way!

RACE: Are We So Different is open to the public through April 28.
