The New York state Senate's Independent Democratic Conference is countering Gov. Andrew Cuomo's 10-point women's rights bill with one that drops the abortion proposal threatening to sink Cuomo's proposal.
The IDC, which shares control of the Senate majority, introduced the bill Sunday night.
The IDC bill calls for equal pay for equal work, combats discrimination against women, and calls for tougher prostitution laws.
So far Cuomo and the women's rights coalition he assembled have refused to break apart similar measures from Cuomo's proposal to strengthen abortion rights.
The IDC bill would give a new chance for the nine popular items to pass into law.
