Senator Charles Schumer is raising concerns about the spread of technology to create 3-D firearms.

A federal law that bans weapons created by 3-D printers will expire next month and Schumer is trying to get the law extended. Schumer says 3-D printing has advanced to the point that anyone with $1,000 and an Internet connection can come up with the plastic parts that can be assembled to become a gun. Those firearms are considered particularly dangerous because they can't be detected by metal detectors or X-ray machines.

Schumer says while 3-D printers "are a miraculous technology" efforts need to be made "to make sure they are not being used to make deadly, undetectable weapons."
