There is an important new study recommending women carrying the BRCA1 Gene have their ovaries removed by age 35 before the risk of ovarian cancer begins to rise.

Those who had their ovaries removed had an 80 percent lower chance for developing ovarian cancer. Having the surgery means giving up the ability to have children, but there are also other health risks and potential complications involved.

News10NBC talked with Dr. Eugene Toy, Chief OB-GYN/Rochester General Health about what people should know when it comes to this life changing decision. To see the interview, press play on the video player.
