Two fundraisers slated for July 31 and Sept. 21 could give a much-needed boost to an Ontario County nonprofit that serves sexually or physically abused children.
The Child Advocacy Center of the Finger Lakes (CAC), a program of the Partnership for Ontario County, is aimed not only at reducing the trauma experienced by child abuse victims who disclose their abuse, but also at improving child abuse investigations.
The child-friendly facility, headquartered in Phelps, provides a way for young victims to share their story one time, with one safe person, while other agency representatives listen in discreetly via closed circuit TV. Professionals can glean pertinent and specific information that will enable them to give appropriate services and support to the child and their family. That information also aids in the prosecution of their abuser.
