An evening of chaos after an annual celebration. Rochester’s Puerto Rican Festival ended peacefully but police still had to control people on the streets.

Large crowds took to the streets in the City's northeast side after the Puerto Rican Festival. Our cameras captured people hanging out of cars, honking horns, waving flags and blocking traffic.

Police tell us at least one person was arrested for disorderly conduct and many others were ticketed for traffic violations. This is an improvement from 2013 when 27 people were arrested after the festival ended.

The arrests are not connected to the festival itself but happen when people take to the streets after the festival shuts down.

Organizers say they’re working hard to keep the aftermath from damaging the three-day event at Frontier Field and planned events to try and head off the chaos. Organizer Orlando Ortiz said, “It's unfortunate the issues happen when the festival concludes. We try to strategize and see what else we can do to minimize these actions. We started this week with a partnership with the Puerto Rican parade committee and doing peace events.”

Festival organizers say they haven't given up on improving their event and making the aftermath safer for everyone.
