Dean visits Rochester, he’s playing referee

Howard Dean in RochesterHoward Dean says he's playing referee between the two Democratic candidates for President. Thursday night, he took time out from that to stop in Rochester where he asked for help in the race for the 29th Congressional District.

Democrat Eric Massa is taking on incumbent Randy Kuhl in that race. Dean also touched on national topics and asked the local democrats for their help. He came out to get fellow democrats fired up.

The Democratic National Committee Chair, Howard Dean, talked national issues: childrens' healthcare, the economy, Iraq. When it came to the local races here and in particular the 29th Congressional District Dean called on his fellow democrats.

Dean said, "We need your help. You're the folks who are here at the county convention. We need your help."

He told them the party can put all the money into the race they want but Dean says what will really sway the November election is the individual efforts at the local level.

He said, "You all have a lot more power than you think you do because people will listen to you if they know you before they listen to Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly or even George W. Bush or certainly Senator McCain."

Dean finished his speech by talking about two priorities of the party. He said, "The first is to heal your country. After 30 years of bitter ugly divisive politics which has set different groups against each other...The second task a head of us is to restore the moral authority of this great country elsewhere in the world."

Afterwards Dean made a quick getaway to head back to Vermont without taking any questions from reporters.
