We have the game winning shot from last night's Geneseo - Oswego basketball game. It got national attention today on ESPN. It's the kind of moment that young athletes dream of. What's more amazing is the kid who made the basket.
With just three seconds left, Geneseo down by one senior Scott Morton made magic. Geneseo quickly inbounds the ball the lay up is blocked, but Morton, following the play is there, dives and tosses the ball up over his head and *in* for the win.
Morton says "Everything happened so quickly. I knew there was a second left I might as well take a shot try to put it near the basket if it goes in what's the worst that can happen."
Scott was a soccer goalie in high school. His habits from way back have carried over to the basketball court.
"I've made stupid dives for plays I couldn't get but this one worked out for me." His coach Steve Minton says "Our trainers are always saying what did you do did you dive in the wall or into a chair. That's a dive I'll forgive."
Morton was interviewed live on ESPN this morning. His shot is ESPN's number one play of the day. That's why it's a surprise to find this young man here.
This morning instead of savoring his moment, he was shopping at Wal-Mart. He heads a student athlete group that raised money for donations for the Adopt-A-Family program. This morning was wrapping day. Amid the texts the calls and accolades, this buzzer beating hero had his priorities straight, and we think that's just as incredible as his shot.
Scott says "The attention is great. We've got more games coming up this weekend. I'm just trying to stay humble. Our team did a great job not just me who won the game of basketball it's a team sport."
Scott scored 32 points in the effort. His parents drove in from Syracuse and were in the stands to see the game.
