Two local teenagers have been indicted on hate crime charges. Prosecutors say they beat a 13-year-old because he's gay.
Prosecutors say Christopher Stewart and Domenic Cray are charged with assault as a hate crime. Both are students in the city school district.
The teens are accused of beating the young boy on Carthage Street on September 4. They were originally charged with a lesser assault before the grand jury changed it to a more serious offense.
Prosecutor Kyle Rossi said, “I'm confident in this individual and his ability and coping strategies and his ability to cope with what happened to him.”
The two teens will be back in court in two weeks.
