SUNY Brockport Student killed after car accident in Steuben County
A SUNY Brockport student is dead after crashing his car early this morning, and now police are looking into whether alcohol was involved.
It happened around 3:15 Saturday morning.
Police were called to county Route 13 in the Town of Bath in Steuben County.
Investigators say Dakota Deats of Bath was not wearing his seatbelt. They say his car went off the road, hit a utility pole, went airborne and landed in a shed attached to a barn.
The 22-year-old was ejected and taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police believe Deats was speeding and alcohol may have been involved.
The Monroe County Medical Examiner is doing the autopsy.
