Aviella Winder was nominated by her grandmother for her volunteerism and compassion for others. Aviella gives countless hours of her time each week as a member of Soldier Angels Organization. The organization is responsible for sending care packages to our soldiers overseas. Elvin Gutierrez was nominated for his dedication. Every morning before school begins; Elvin comes into the library, turns on all the computers, delivers laptops to assigned classrooms and completes any assignments requested. At the end of the day, he ensures all of the computers are plugged in and charged for the next day. He does this everyday, without any expectation or compensation. Andrea Cohen came forward to school officials with information identifying violent students in her school. Andrea is described as being a hardworking, no nonsense student who upholds high standards for herself and does not succumb to negative peer pressure. Shanijah Bryant was nominated for turning in drugs she found at school to her teacher. Realizing this was unsafe, she used good judgment in turning in the drugs to an adult. She is an excellent second grader and takes personal pride in her school environment. David Lopez was nominated for his quick thinking and immediate action. David noticed a toddler near an open second story window. He began to yell for help trying to draw attention to the child, when the child fell to the ground. He immediately ran to the child, and got help immediately. His quick actions prevented more serious injuries to the child. Keith House found his mother passed out on her bedroom floor. After calling 911 he administered to his mother who is diabetic. Due to his quick actions and level headedness, he was able to get her the help she needed. He remained calm and very mature for his young age. Keith is in the second grade. Jeremiah Anderson has demonstrated good decision making and leadership skills. When a new student was assigned to his class, Jeremiah took him under his wing and they’ve become very good friends. Jeremiah constantly provides positive, heart warming comments to classmates and family. |
