Former Macedon Police officer takes plea deal

A former Macedon Police officer says he lied on a police report. Heath Farabell pleaded guilty Thursday in court.

Farabell was arrested back in 2007, when he forced his way into the home of a Macedon resident, without permission.

The Farabell family took a long time to decide whether or not Farabell would take the plea deal. Ultimately he did plead guilty to offering a false instrument for filing, which is a misdemeanor.

His attorney says he pled guilty to avoid going to jail, being that he has two young children and a baby on the way, but this means that Farabell is admitting by his plea that he entered the victims house that night, without permission. The DA says the punishment fits the crime.

Farabell faces three years probation, six months home confinement, a $1,000 fine, and community service. He'll be back in court on September 4 for sentencing.

Technically, Farabell can still get a job as an officer because he's guilty of a misdemeanor, not a felony but the DA says it's unlikely any department would hire him especially because he was fired from the Macedon force, for other charges unrelated to this case.
