In Iowa, Obama to tout election-year energy plan

President Barack Obama is returning to Iowa, seeking support for an election-year agenda to spur renewable energy along with a more immediate prize: the state's up-for-grab voters.

Obama is pressing Congress to support clean energy tax incentives, part of his congressional "to-do list" that he contends could bolster the economy. The items have found little support from Republicans in Congress pushing increased energy production, but Obama has tried to sell the items as a way to help manufacturers, strapped homeowners and veterans.

The president is returning to the state that helped launch his presidential campaign in 2008 and could play a pivotal role in whether he gets a second term. He is starting his day with a private fundraiser in northern California.
