The Canandaigua Police Department says a 22-year-old Wayland man is in custody after he tried to rob a convenience store Saturday morning.
Police say that incident happened around 1 a.m. Saturday morning on Main Street near Parrish Street in Canandaigua. Investigators say 22-year-old Clayton Brown entered the store with a knife and demanded money from the store owner. Police say a struggle ensued between Brown and the owner causing Brown to drop the knife.
Officers say Brown fled the store, but was arrested soon after, following a short police chase down West Lake Road.
Brown is charged with attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing. He was taken to Ontario County Jail to await arraignment.
