I-Team 10 Investigation: 21-year-old murder case solved in Greece

 I-Team 10 has learned that investigators have solved a 21-year-old murder case in Greece.

Stephanie Kupchynsky was a music teacher who disappeared in 1991. Her remains were found seven years later. Now it appears a man, already in prison, will be charged in connection with her death.

Greece Police and the Monroe County District Attorney will hold a news conference on Monday afternoon to outline details of the arrest. News10NBC has been told the man suspected from the very beginning will now be charged with killing Stephanie Kupchynsky. 

He is 59-year-old Edward Laraby, who has been prison since 1994, serving two life sentences for sexual abuse and attempted murder. The Department of Corrections confirms that he is scheduled to be arraigned at Wende Correctional Facility on Monday.

27-year-old Stephanie Kupchynsky went missing in July 1991. Her car was found at the airport a few days later. In 1998, her skeletal remains were located along a creek in a remote area off Route 104 in the town of Murray, Orleans County.

Laraby had been considered a suspect from nearly the beginning. He was a maintenance worker at the apartment complex where Kupchynsky lived. He had served three stints in prison for rape, sexual abuse and armed robbery and had been released from prison just eight months before Kupchynsky disappeared.

Because this is a sealed indictment, I-Team 10 isn’t sure exactly what charges Laraby will face. He is scheduled to be arraigned at the prison on Monday followed by a news conference by Greece Police and the Monroe County District Attorney.
