I-Team 10 has an update on the misuse of state assistance benefits. The Senate has passed the Public Assistance Integrity Act.
This is the second time the bill has been discussed in the Senate. The first time, it was never voted on.
If signed into law, it would prohibit people from using their EBT cards to buy alcohol, tobacco or lottery tickets. EBT cards help people buy things not covered by food stamps, like toiletries and school supplies. Back in 2011, an I-Team 10 Investigation found EBT cards were being used in local gambling establishments and at liquor store ATMs.
