News10NBC is the only ones to bring you inside the Medley Centre at the same time the Irondequoit Fire Marshal went inside to inspect Wednesday. The town had cited the property for code violations after a broken pipe caused water damage. On Tuesday, I-Team 10 went inside the former mall for a closer look at the clean-up efforts.

I-Team is still waiting to learn if the Medley Centre is now in compliance or still in violation of town code. We are expecting that in the form of a letter from the fire marshal after an inspection Wednesday morning.

For the first time since issuing citations, the Irondequoit Fire Marshal and code enforcement officers were able to get inside the Medley Centre for an inspection. They were greeted by representatives of the mall. They spent about 75 minutes inside. Afterward, I-Team 10 spoke exclusively with one of the Medley Centre partners.

Jim Giuliano, Bersin Properties, said, "We're just waiting for the report from the town and we'll go from there. It seems like the property is in great shape. I don't think we have any issues that we really need to deal with, but again, we'll see what the town comes back with."

In January, frozen sprinkler pipes burst causing water damage inside. The town took photos and cited the mall for failing to have a working fire suppression system and for having combustible materials inside.

On Tuesday, I-Team 10 went inside the mall. Much of it was not impacted by the water damage and looks just as it did when it closed more than five years ago. The damaged area, mostly around the food court, has been cleaned up and crews have been making repairs.

Adam Bello, Irondequoit Town Supervisor, said, “The expectation is that the property is in compliance with the town code. We laid out pretty specifically what they were supposed to do and the town code is pretty clear on what the condition of the property is supposed to be."

As soon as we get the fire marshal’s inspection report, we will post it on our website.
