Deputies: 13-year-old bicyclist hit by vehicle on State Route 96

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 13-year-old was hospitalized after he was hit by a vehicle while bicycling in the Town of Victor.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies responded Saturday night at about 9:18 p.m. to State Route 96 near Heath Row.  He was reportedly traveling on the shoulder of State Route 96 and, according to witnesses, allegedly turned into the westbound lane. This brought him into the path of a Honda SUV that was being driven by 34-year-old Mario Torres of Victor.

Deputies say the bicyclist was hit and ejected from his bicycle. He reportedly suffered a head injury, and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital to get further treatment. Deputies say the teen hadn’t been wearing a helmet when the incident happened.

The hospital tells us that he is in guarded condition.

Deputies say that the investigation remains ongoing at this time.
