A 16-year-old was injured in a car crash on Friday in the Town of Phelps, requiring a Mercy Flight evacuation.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office, the 16-year-old's car drifted off the south side of the highway around 12:27 P.M., striking a cement wall and then sideswiping a utility pole before bursting into flames.
The driver was able to get herself out, but had to be transported to Strong Memorial Hospital via Phelps Ambulance and then Mercy Flight. She suffered leg and arm injuries but has since been discharged.
According to the Sheriff's Office, further investigation has led deputies to determine that the drive had fallen alseep and was being impaired by drugs and/or alcohol. She has been charged with DWI and driving while impaired and will answer charges at a later date.
