Warning about Western New York postal scam

Buffalo-area police report that a scam in Cheektowaga is being seen in other parts of Western New York.

According to News10NBC Buffalo affiliate WGRZ-TV, Cheektowaga Police have seen three reports of the identity theft scam.

In the scheme, identity thieves use the post office to change the mailing address of the victim.

In two of the three cases in Cheektowaga, police say the mail was sent to Florida to open credit cards or loans.

Police urge people to contact the U.S. Post Office if they notice any disruption from normal mail service.
