A University of Buffalo medical student trying to go to North Carolina for a pharmacy program has been denied travel by New York State.

According to our Buffalo affiliate WGRZ, Christine Piccione appealed Governor Cuomo's travel ban to North Carolina. It was put in place because of the state's so-called Bathroom Law, impacting transgender people. The state told her she couldn't go to North Carolina for pharmacy rotations because it counts as state-sponsored travel.

Cuomo banned all non-essential state travel to North Carolina back in March 2016.

State officials say there are other options available in other states equivalent to those in North Carolina.
