The next time you make a trip to the grocery store, you may not find everything you need.
Wild weather here and across the country is making it harder for stores to stock certain fruits and vegetables.
Giuliana Brawley shops for fresh produce often, and sees the shelves are skimpier.
“I have noticed a lot of places have been barren, but I thought it was because our weather has been bad," Brawley said.
The weather here and across the country is being blamed for a shortage of items like cucumbers, green peppers, eggplant, green beans and more according to the latest U.S. Foods Farmer's Report. (https://www.usfoods.com/content/dam/usf/pdf/farmers_report/FarmersReport.pdf)
Andre Primus said he sees a difference in the quality of the produce available.
"I noticed the stuff was not as fresh looking," Primus said.
Phillip Ferrara notices a different taste.
"I'm finding some of the flavor not to be there," Ferrara said.
Wegmans posted signs in their stores apologizing for product shortages blaming the weather.
Shoppers like Susan Plunkett are spotting a difference on the shelves and in the checkout line.
"I've noticed a difference in prices because of the shortage," Plunkett said. “I noticed throughout the year there were weeks when the price of lettuce was three to four times more than it ever was."
The shortage is being felt by both large chains and small grocers. Amy Jerman at Hart's Local Grocers in Rochester said their store has seen the impact.
"For a couple weeks we were having difficulty getting the normal amount of produce we like to bring in we definitely did see the hit," Jerman said.
Jerman said grocers try not to let that hit impact your wallet.
"We want to keep costs low for customers across the board," Jerman said.
Plunkett agrees produce prices at Hart's are consistent, but is concerned about what's next.
"What the future holds I don't know," Plunkett said. "I really can't tell because the demand is great for fruits and vegetables."
On top of the weather impacting growing conditions, serious snow storms make it tough to get deliveries. Jerman told us at Hart’s they expect deliveries to be slower because of the storm we had Friday night into Saturday.
