Community comes together as search for missing teen enters third day; RPD looking into tips

March 10, 2018 06:34 PM

Hundreds came to the Al Sigl Center on Saturday to join the search for 14-year-old Trevyan Rowe, the teen with autism who has not been seen since Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, the Rochester Police Department has revealed that they are looking into several tips sent in to them. Among those tips was one report that someone had made a threat against Rowe, although RPD now says they believe that to be a hoax.

A SCUBA team was deployed to a pond near School Number 12 on Saturday as well, although at last report nothing was found.

The search began around 9:00 a.m., with teams of searchers fanning out to search for the student. The volunteers who have joined the police in the search was a representation of the Rochester area consisting of many different ages and races. Some even brought their dogs to help in the search.

Among those taking part in the efforts is Pastor James C. Simmons of the Baber A.M.E. Church. on Meigs Street.

"We just want to see him safely returned home," says Simmons, who was in the Monroe-Pearls-Meigs Street area after reports of a sighting.

"We're knocking on doors, we're searching in construction zones, we're looking at sheds and trash cans... anywhere we can possibly see in order to find him."

Although Rowe has still not been found as of 1 p.m. on Saturday, the search is expected to continue.

A joint statement has been released from the Sigl Family of Agencies, Autism Up and Mary Cariola Children’s Center on the ongoing search:
Community response in the search for missing 14 year-old boy Trevyan Rowe has been remarkable and greatly appreciated. The search continues this afternoon and will most likely draw to a close this evening between 5:00-6:00 p.m. Until then, more volunteers are needed through the rest of the afternoon.  Trevyan has Autism and it’s imperative we find him. There have been some reported “sightings” today and the Rochester Police Department has been checking out each one, but more feet on the ground will assist in this effort. The volunteer center is at the Sigl Center, 1000 Elmwood Avenue, Door 5.
Additionally, if the public is out tonight it is important to be alert and if Trevyan is seen, please call 911.  He may be frightened and it’s best to watch him and call authorities.

Rowe is African-American, and was last seen wearing a black jacket with fur around the hood, a black shirt, red sneakers, and dark pants.

We will have more information as it becomes available and on News10NBC at 6 and 11. Anyone with any information is urged to call 911.
