ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — CrimeStoppers is raising money to buy the Rochester Police Department a new K9 and, on Friday the fundraiser got a big boost.

Canandaigua National Bank has donated $500 to the cause.

A check presentation happened this morning at the branch on Monroe Avenue in Brighton.

RPD Sergeant Mike Horn and his K9, Roc, were on hand.

CrimeStoppers said two of the department’s K9s are retiring, so they’re raising funds to buy a new one.

Any leftover money will go to the organization’s K9 fund.

“So we have had a K9 CrimeStoppers fund for about 6 years now and it very quickly became a very popular program with the community,” Joyce Palumbo said. “Corporations have stepped up to support it and that fund pays for veterinary expenses, supplies, training equipment.”

The fundraiser for the new K9 puppy runs through the fall. Click here to make a donation.
