Man charged with BWI after boat hits pier in Hamlin

Monroe County Sheriff's deputies say a boat crashed into a pier on Lake Ontario Monday night.

Investigators say the boat hit a pier in Hamlin near the Brockport Yacht Club around 9:30 p.m. Deputies say one passenger was ejected into the water when the boat hit the pier. The other three occupants jumped into the water after the crash because the boat started to sink, according to deputies.

The driver of the boat, 27-year-old Matthew Trippi of Hamlin, was charged with boating while intoxicated. Deputies say Trippi was not injured.

Two passengers were taken to Strong Hospital for precautionary measures. Another passenger was not injured.
