A man is facing charges after he attempted to enter the Monroe County Hall of Justice Friday morning with a loaded handgun.
At around 9:30 a.m., deputies say 35-year-old Robert Salters was entering the Hall of Justice for a scheduled court appearance. A deputy observed the .25 caliber handgun on the x-ray machine as Salters went through screening.
Salters was immediately handcuffed and taken to a secure area by court deputies.
Deputies say six rounds of ammunition were found in the magazine that was in the pocket of Salters' coat, wrapped in a plastic bag.
Salters was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the first degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Deputies say he has a lengthy arrest history.
