A Rochester seventh grader is the latest student to receive a Do The Right Thing award.

Joshua Montanez goes to Enrico Fermi School Number 17. In December 2016, a friend of Joshua's was getting frustrated with the classroom lesson and refused to do it.

Instead of ignoring him, Joshua worked with him and together, they completed the lesson. His teachers, who taught him last year, say Joshua's is getting A's in math class and is a caring friend who is admired by his peers.

"If other people don't know how to be a leader, they won't respect or take responsibility and that's why I'm helping them understand what a leader is and how to be a leader," he says.

Joshua is in the science club, participates in the school's recycling program and loves to play basketball.
