Owen Murphy, a seventh grader from Johanna Perrin Middle School, is being recognized for doing the right thing.
He was with his mom and two younger siblings when they were visiting an elderly aunt who is handicapped and was thinking of selling her two-story house. They were in the attic going through some boxes when Owen smelled smoke.
Owen was able to guide everyone through the house. He even called 911 so his mom could focus on getting the aunt with a walker outside.
"If you do the wrong thing, bad things will happen," says Owen. "Always do the right thing because it can benefit your future."
Owen is described as quiet, respectful and caring. He loves baseball and hanging out with his friends.
