A dangerous new trend is hitting social media and it has parents and doctors extremely concerned.

It is called the "Tide Pod challenge.” Teens toss detergent pods in their mouths then post videos of them doing it online.

This bizarre craze just started popping up all over social media this week. The pods contain chemicals, a toxic soap meant to clean your clothes, not to be ingested.

Despite the warnings there are many teens ignoring them just to get clicks and likes. The videos are supposedly made to be funny as a satirical response to national and commercialized warnings against eating tide pods.

They are jokingly referred to as the "forbidden fruit."

Doctors say anyone who eats a pod can suffer serious and permanent damage.
