Five teens arrested for burglary, assault in Gates

Gates Police arrested five teens following a burglary and assault of a 14-year-old girl.

On Jan. 27, police say a home on Elvira Street was broken into. According to police, the teens kicked in a door to the home and assaulted a 14-year-old girl. Police say they also used pepper spray on the girl. An 11-year-old was also at home during the incident, according to police.

Police say part of the attack was recorded on cell phone video. The incident stemmed from a boyfriend dispute between the 14-year-old victim and one of the juvenile suspects, according to police.

Police say four of the teens arrested were female. Three of the teens arrested were juveniles. Idalis Santiago, 16, and Jarret Lewis, 17, were also arrested. They were all charged with burglary, assault, and criminal mischief.

All three juvenile offenders were taken to the Monroe County Detention Center.
