A bill that would make it easier for people to get information from the state was signed into law.
Governor Cuomo signed the bill to reform the state's Freedom of Information Law.
The law was created 40 years ago allowing New Yorkers access to public records if they request a copy from the government agency that has the information. But often times those requests are delayed or denied.
The reform bill makes it easier to fight denied requests. It forces the state to pay your legal fees in cases where the judge rules in favor of releasing the requested information.
