Smith was a senior at Hilton High School and a member of the Hilton Varsity Cheerleading Squad.

Her mother said she was going to graduate high school on June 23 and then go to school for cosmetology.

“Paige was a bright and talented student who had many friends in our school and community,” said High School Principal Brian Bartalo. “Paige was a varsity cheerleader, and a valuable and successful member in our cheer program throughout her middle and high school years. She loved being a Cadet. Paige will be greatly missed by all.”

District officials issued a statement Monday morning, saying counselors are available for students and staff members.
