The Travel Channel's Andrew Zimmern is catching heat for trying a garbage plate during a visit to Buffalo.
Tuesday night, Zimmern's show "Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations" aired his visit to Buffalo. During the show, Zimmern tried some Buffalo favorites like the Buffalo wing, but also made a stop to try a plate.
The decision ruffled the feathers of some Rochester residents who voiced their displeasure to Zimmern on Twitter.
"Why in God's good name would you go for a garbage plate in Buffalo? You go to Virginia for BBQ, too?" asked one user.
Another user said, "Really @andrewzimmern? You had a garbage plate in the wrong city. @FoodNetwork [sic] don't you have people that check this stuff? #fail"
Others were a little nicer, and suggested Zimmern check out the birthplace of the garbage plate.
"Hey Andrew, there are many variations of plates but only one true garbage plate at Nick Tahou in Rochester."
Zimmern defended the episode to critics on Twitter saying: "We credited Rochester where it was born! And ate in Buffalo where it's very popular."
If you missed it, the Buffalo episode re-airs Sunday at 2:30 p.m. on the Travel Channel.
