Big news on a local multi-million dollar development project in Victor. Is a new Bass Pro Shops really going to be built?
Pat Taney was asked about that for week's Good Question report.
Pat discovered Bass Pro Shops is not coming to Victor, at least not anytime soon.
It was supposed to go on a piece of land near the Thruway and off Route 96. It's dubbed as the Fishers Ridge development.
You've probably seen the signs off the Thruway, promising a new Bass Pro Shops plus other stores, a hotel, and apartments.
News10NBC has discovered plans to build a Bass Pro Shops are on hold.
The developer is still trying to get some help from the state, mainly to assist with traffic and engineering plans.
We also reached out to Bass Pro Shops about this.
"We have temporarily placed this project on hold to assess our plans and timing," said Katie Mitchell with the Bass Pro Shops communications office.
Mitchell did go on to say they'll continue to work with the developer and may revisit plans sometime in the future.
But as for Bass Pro Shops coming soon, Mitchell says don't count on it.
The developer behind this project, John DiMarco, says the rest of the project is moving forward. He's in talks with a hotel chain, medical offices, and other big-name retailers.
DiMarco hopes to have shovels in the ground by the end of the year.
DiMarco agrees the halt to plans announced by Bass Pro Shops is a big blow, but he points out that this is a 100-acre development project and Bass Pro Shops was only slated to occupy 16 acres. It is not the end of plans for development on that site. DiMarco is still hoping Bass Pro Shops will join in at a later date.
