Democrats from the House of Representatives are denouncing the Trump administration policy that separates children from their parents when they cross the border without proper documentation.
More than a dozen members of congress gathered outside the capitol building Wednesday morning to call for their colleagues to speak out against what they call a policy of "child abuse."
Last week, congresswoman Rosa Delauro introduced a resolution condemning the "Zero-tolerance" policy, and she says it now has more than 140 representatives signing on.
"President Trump could stop it all now, but no, he wants to politicize the issue, blame others for his own cruel policy, as parents and children wait, weep and wonder," said Delauro. "Congress needs to step up, condemn this appalling zero-tolerance policy."
Supporters of the resolution say it's a bipartisan issue that isn't a matter of "right or left," but a matter of "right or wrong."
Hundreds of children have been separated from their parents at southern border crossings.
