James Ritts has topped Kitty Karle in the Republican primary race for Ontario County district attorney. The two faced off in the primary after the retirement of Michael Tantillo.

Speaking with News10NBC, Ritts said he is already focused on what he can do to help to community as district attorney.

He says a major focus will be combating the drug epidemic.

"The thing I think would be on the front for anybody is this heroin epidemic and dealing with the heroin epidemic," he said. "And putting together the pieces we need, especially the prevention pieces to get into the schools and making sure that we're getting kids to understand just how dangerous this is."

While there is no Democratic challenger for Ritts come November, Karle does have a spot on the ballot under the Reform, Independence, and Conservative lines.
