More than 1,000 people attended a big job fair at MCC Wednesday.
RochesterWorks! along with Monroe County hosted the event. Nearly 80 employers, all with open and available positions were on hand to talk with potential employees.
There was a mix of candidates. Some were looking for their first job, others looking to change careers; there were also people there who have been out of work.
"This is a great indication that first of all, that Monroe County does have jobs, the economy here is strong, it's been very resilient, we could have been a ghost town with what happened with Kodak and Xerox but we're very resilient," said RochesterWorks! CEO Peter Pecor.
Monroe County Executive, Cheryl Dinolfo says, "We're hearing that people are being hired right on the spot, some are getting interviews at a later date, but it's really a tremendous opportunity to help people get back to work."
This is the 9th annual career fair. Organizers thought they might see a decrease in participants because the employment rate is low, but they saw a record number of pre-registrants.
