A large police presence on Dewberry Drive in Irondequoit for a possible standoff ended after the house in question was discovered to be empty.

According to Irondequoit Police, a landlord called around 3:30 P.M. saying he could not get into the property, saying it appeared to be barricaded from inside the entrances. IPD came to the location but could not get in and was being assisted by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office to try and make contact and see if anyone is in the residence, which was supposed to be vacant.

Police and the Sheriff's Office said they did not know at the time if anyone was inside the building, but they are taking precautions while they investigate. After gaining access to the building, no one was found in the location, although there was evidence that someone may have been there in the past.

People in the immediate area were urged to shelter in place. A "hyper reach" call had gone out, according to IPD.

The street was closed for a time, but is now back open.

The investigation is continuing.
